Mr. Donald Trump: Prevent the Expansion of War and the Targeting of People’s Livelihood Infrastructure
Statement by the Parties and Organizations of South Azerbaijan Addressed to the President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald Trump
Mr. President,
As you are aware, Iran is a multinational country in which the majority of the population consists of non-Persian nations. Among them, the Turks of Azerbaijan constitute the largest national group among the peoples living in Iran.
We have repeatedly emphasized that the main cause of tensions and war is the structure of the Islamic Republic and the system of *Velayat-e Faqih*—a system which, over past decades, through interventionist policies, the expansion of missile programs, and destabilizing activities, has endangered regional and global security.
However, our primary concern today is the expansion of war in a way that directly targets people’s lives and their livelihood infrastructure.
Targeting:
* Electricity and energy networks
* Water resources
* Vital infrastructure essential to people’s daily lives
Not only does this fail to weaken the regime, but it directly victimizes already pressured populations and creates broader humanitarian crises. Such a course of action can significantly increase poverty, unemployment, social instability, and forced migration.
Moreover, this situation enables the regime to use civilians as human shields in order to preserve itself.
Accordingly, we seriously and explicitly urge you:
to prevent the expansion of war, especially the targeting of Iran’s civilian livelihood infrastructure.
We believe that focusing on military and security structures is a more targeted approach and less costly for the people, and it has already produced tangible results in weakening the regime’s repressive capabilities.
At the same time, we emphasize that we, the Turks of Azerbaijan and their political organizations, have never considered war to be in the interest of our peoples. This is a war imposed on our people by the regime. We have always sought, through civil methods and relying on popular forces—most of whom oppose the Islamic Republic regime—to pave the way for the formation of our national government. However, this war-driven and repressive regime has consistently responded to our civil demands with violence, repression, and bloodshed.
Meanwhile, the nations living in Iran, including the Azerbaijani nation, are moving toward freedom, democracy, and the right to self-determination, and they view this historical moment as an opportunity for a more just future.
Mr. President,
We expect that U.S. policies will be shaped in a way that prevents harm to the daily lives of the people and avoids turning this war into a large-scale humanitarian disaster.
Respectfully,
Parties of South Azerbaijan
