Statement of the Front of Nations for Self-Determination of “Iran” in Response to Reza Pahlavi, Who Seeks to Once Again Massacre Non-Persian Nations
During the ongoing uprising and protests in various cities across the geography known as Iran, Reza Pahlavi’s repeated statements advocating “one nation, one flag,” without any reference to the rights of the oppressed and occupied nations of Iran, demonstrate the continuation of the same Persian-centric nation-state outlook that over the past century has repeatedly been established through the massacres of non-Persian nations by his father and grandfather.
The massacre of more than 30,000 South Azerbaijani Turks by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi; the massacres of Kurds, Arabs, Baluchis, and Turkmens; and the mass deportations and bans on the languages of these nations by the Pahlavi regimes and the Islamic Republic in the name of “one nation, one flag, one state” of Persian Iran have not been erased from the collective memory of these peoples.
The deliberate disregard for the right to self-determination of Iran’s oppressed nations is not a sign of unity; rather, it is a warning sign of the reproduction of the same colonial, despotic, and occupying order of the past in a new guise—an order that openly signals national genocide.
We, in the Front of Nations for Self-Determination of “Iran,” explicitly declare that the continuation or reconstruction of a colonial state, even under new names and symbols, will not be accepted by us.
The future of this geography will only be democratic, just, and acceptable when it is shaped on the basis of recognizing equal legal and political rights for oppressed nations, along with their right to self-determination and free will.
